western wear and denim jeans are part of a lifestyle but began as a costume. the early rodeo cowboys and actors in western movies wore custom-made jeans and costumes. these clothe were fashioned by tailors or were homemade. the most famous tailors were genuine artists who sparked the creation of western designs, but their output and reach were limited. their suits and shirts. though ornate and constructed with intricate detail, were flashy to the point of kitsch. they also only made one piece at a time. to understand how western fashion became popular, it should be put in the context of popular colture. the western was first popularized by dime novels. this was the first mass-produced entertainment industry, something like the television of its day. dime novels fed the myth of the west to the hero-starved east. the wild west shows of buffalo bill and the miller brother's 101 ranch took the west on the road, trilling audiences across the united states of america and europe. silent films took off where the wild west shows had left off, perpetuating the romance and excitement of the west. dude ranches also played an important role in spreading the word. the term "dude" may actually have as its origins disparaging comment on the "duds" worn by city slickers pretending to be cowboys. western wear fashion, western fashion and denim jeans, urban cowboys clothing, custom-made jeans and costumes,

natural dyes are far from being uniform, just as nature. this is probably the main reason for which people are attracted to natural dying. in fact each garment is unique and you will never find anyone else wearing the same item as you. organic and natural dyes have been used on cotton and wool throughout history. natural fibres are immersed in a mordant solution, necessary to fix the colours, before dyeing, but not all. sake, vinegar, ash, salt are natural substances used as mordants in different countries around the world. with dyeing natural fibres before to weave the fabric, the colour will be vivid and a bit more uniform. compared with synthetic, natural fibres keep the colour reacher. normally plants used for dyeing are specifically cultivated. in some cases only the root of the plant is required. the natural material is chopped into small pieces and place in a pot, brought to boil slowly to ferment the dye. the fabric is soaked in a color fixative before the dye operation, to let the pigment tinge the fabric, then rinsed and squeezed out surplus. never forget to use rubber or plastic gloves to handle the cloth that has been sinked into the tint, because your hands can be stained and some dyes may be toxic. all dyed garments should be washed in cold water, better if by hand, and separately. natural dyes fashion clothes, best natural dyeing, organic natural dyes, dyeing fabrics with natural dyes, natural dyes in fashion, japanese natural dyeing tradition,

the world of tailoring has always been somewhat secretive and tailoring suits is more of an art than a science. it is a skill set that is acquired through practice and experience. it takes many years to become a doctor, or a lawyer, or an engineer, but it takes a lifetime to master the art of tailoring. in fact a bespoke suit requires several days of work. the word “bespoke” was coined three centuries ago and derives from the term “been spoken for”. italian tailors were using steam, pressure and padding to mould fabrics around the body. with the introduction of the “ready to wear” all this went out of the window, because the high street sensed the need for suits at affordable price. at SBU we believe that high quality and bespoke tailoring should be accessible to all dispelling the myth that quality comes at a heavy price. we want to uphold the art of italian tailoring whilst offering reasonable prices. all SBU suits have a modern italian cut and are made in italy using traditional tailoring techniques. japan’s obsession in recreating vintage denim led domestic manufacturers to become the world’s number one in terms of expertise, knowledge and production. for this reason japanese denim is reputed to be the best in the world among denim enthusiasts. denim from japan is recognized for its premium construction and the arisanal craft necessary to make it. obviously not all japanese denim is made equally and huge variation can be found among different manufacturers, factories and jeans. at SBU we continue to experiment with the highest quality selvage denim in search of the perfect pair of blue jeans. selvedge or selvage refers to the end of a roll of fabric which prevents unrevelling of jeans. producing selvedge denim is more expensive in terms of cost, requiring high skill and mastery. our selvage denim is woven on old looms, which granted a denser and tighter wave along with precious imperfections and irregularities. SBU japanese selvedge jeans are dyed with pure indigo. this vegetable dye used in the making process is well known for releasing the typical dark blue color. in fact indigo color may stains white and light clothing and even the skin. this makes indigo annoying to deal with, even if it can be washed away in most cases. due to the fact that SBU denim fabrics are made by using up to thirty dips, the deep indigo blue color is sometimes released even after several washes. in order to prevent you denim pants from losing their indigo we suggest you a few techniques. the first rule to follow when you bring your new jeans home is to wash them immediately and separately, without any other clothes together with them. in doing so the indigo released in the wash will not stain other items. never wear them before washing. immerse your denim always inside out using cold water only, which is much more soft on color and be aware that hot water will make your jeans shrink. adding a cup of white vinegar to cold water rinse will help seal the indigo with the cotton. hand washing is highly recommended if you want the jeans maintaining their form and, in that case, the denim can be soaked in a mix of cold water and vinegar. a cold wash cycle can be effective before you wear the jeans. just keep in mind to turn the jeans inside out and to wash them apart so that the indigo does not transfer to other apparel. another good system is to immerse your jeans in vinegar and cold water all night long. the next day you can rinse them with a simple cold water wash. when finished hang your jeans out to air dry. Not putting the denim in the dryer will help retain the shape of the jeans. denim is part of american culture and costume. american spirit pervaded the jeans. but the jeans that america gave birth to are just a shadow of the jeans produced in the modern days. in fact production of raw denim was ceased in america inthe 1960s. the essence of denim can now be found in japan, where old shuttle looms still produce true selvage denim fabric. in addition the centuries old indigo dyed method, which uses the leaves of the indigofera tinctoria plant, makes japanese denim more than unique and immediately recognizable. Natural indigo is named ai-zome. it gives icredibly subtle shades and hues. pure indigo has a depth that chemical colour can’t create. mostly, it gives the fabric individuality. the entire japan is permeated with indigo blue colour. SBU jeans are produced using the best japanese denim fabric on the market. the combination of using vintage looms and vegetable dyed colors gives SBU jeans a very special and unique look. we use only high quality cotton that provides brilliance especially if dyed with traditional techniques centuries old. this generates a smooth but irregular surface and an exclusive colour due to the contrast between the natural dyed indigo and white cotton. SBU limited edition jeans are manufactured using special old machines abandoned for modern equipment almost everywhere else. each pair is slightly different and this imperfection makes them perfect for us. a fabric is a planar structure consisting of yarns. a woven fabric is two or more sets of yarns interlaced to each other. twill weave repeats on two or more warp and weft yarns. characteristic diagonal lines are produced on the fabric. denim is made of woven fabric that comes from blue cotton warp yarn and white coton weft yarn, a.k.a “filling yarns”. the filling yarns are stretched accross the widht of the fabric and interlaced ata a ninety degree angle with warp yarns. those diagonal lines create an interwoven pattern called “twill”. denim standard and most common fabric is right hand twill. compared to other denim fabrics right hand twill has a smoother surface. among denim left hand twill, which was in the past years considered a basic fabric, has a softer hand feel after washing. left hand denim twill puts in great evidence vertical fading. broken twill denim was used to combat the twisting effect after washing due to the tension typical of regular denim, considered a defect by many. instead of the twill running diagonally, broken twill has no consitent direction and alternates right and left resembling a zig-zag pattern. broken twill is when the weave of the twill is reversed at every two warp ends to form a random design.

denim cloth has a unique history. It was used to make sails, but some forward looking sailors from genova thought appropriate that such fine and strong fabric would make great pants, later named jeans from “genovese”. jeans are, in fact, pants made of denim, renowned for their comfort and strength. the name for blue jeans derived from the color of the fabric used to make them. SBU denim fabric are treated with a blue dye obtained from the indigo plant. unlike many other cloths, denim is dyed before it is woven. the pure indigo used is entirely natural. the denim is dipped in the dye vat from ten to thirty times. sulfur is often used to stabilize the layers of indigo dye. all SBU fabrics are made in japan using traditional techniques passed on from centuries ago. as the blue dyed threads forming tha warp (vertical) are combined with white threads forming the weft (horizontal), denim is not hundred percent blue. denim fabric is then cutted in pieces with high speed cutting machines. a pair of SBU jeans contains about ten different pieces excluding accessories. once cutted the pieces of denim are ready to be stitched. sewing is done in an assembly line fashion. each sewer is assigned a specific operation. all SBU jeans are prewashed to soften the denim and to eliminate shrinkage. we present stone wash denim as a permanent section of SBU jeans and clothing selection. clothes are placed in an industrial washing machine and pumice stones are added before washing begins. dye particles are removed from the surface of each item, because the stones are abrasive and act like sandpaper. alternatively to pumice stones bleach clothing is often used. bleach clothing is known as acid washing. apparels are bleached then washed in a machine. granulated pumice is added in the washer. the granules are then removed and the clothing is washed for a second time in order to stop the stone wash. an organic substitute of the traditional stone wash is the so called bio-stone wash. a larger variety of stone washes are achieved when using enzymes. with bio-stoning fabrics are not abraded and the enzymes are distributd by the drum during the wash cycle while the ph is mainteined balanced to control a discoloring. bio-stone wash is safer and cleaner for the environment when compared to other methods and clothing is softer when enzymes are used. best stone washed clothing, stone washed t-shirt, bio-stone washing in italy, bleach stone washing denim, organic stone wash jeans, organic stone washed denim, washing jeans with enzymes, bio stone wash jeans, organic stone washed japanese denim, stone washed in italy,

japanese culture is famous for its attention to detail, and japanese denim is not exception. it’s different from all other denim because it uses traditional production methods that have long been forgotten. artisanal denim is a cloth stiffer, denser and yet more comfortable than every other denim produced outside japan. the most distinctve characteristic is given by the selvedge, dyed with pure indigo, with yarn dipped up to thirty times to produce a deeper and richest color. highest quality selvedge denim is produced from a shuttle loom, where the cotton consumption is higher and the time required is greater. decades ago america produced the highest-quality denim fabrics, as the demand for jeans increased, selvage denim ceased to exist. years after the japanese sought out the vintage looms and brought back selvedge, indigo dyed denim. today, selvedge denim made in japan is the most desired denim fabric due to its superior qualities and the craft element is major factor behind authentic japanese selvage denim.

the white shirt is a great icon and one of the most important items of clothing in SBU wardrobe. by the end of century it was worn by those who didn’t work, so they couldn’t stain its whiteness. thanks to the stars of hollywood it became a trend in the forties. it can take you from a black tie happening to an informal meeting, in fact it’s an all purpose item. at SBU we put all our attention to get the best tailored, most versatile and long lasting shirt. SBU shirt collection is presented in both ‘classic’ cut and modern tailor variety. traditional elegance suggests to wear white shirt with black, navy and any shade of grey colours. all shirts are made of two fold fabrics, which is the best and more durable. SBU ready to wear shirts are comfortable shirts that can be worn for almost any occasion. we use imitation mother of pearl buttons, because real mother of pearl tends to shutter during laundry and plastic buttons look too cheap. we highly reccomend to wash SBU shirts at forty degrees with a neutral detergent. each SBU shirt piece is made to exceptionally high standards.

we started STRATEGIC BUSINESS UNIT to create a new type of denim company that focuses on creating high quality products using superior fabric, artisan craftmanship and modern fit, entirely made in italy. we decided to pursue our great passion making jeans that combined comfort, style, tradition and technology. we selected our denim through thousands of fabrics at all the major mills in japan. we are pleased to announce the arrival of SBU premium selvedge collection. selvedge denim fabric is made on shuttle looms with one continuous thread. a pair of SBU jeans requires approximately three meters of selvage denim fabric. SBU selvedge denim is naturally irregular, causing each pair to develop a unique and beautiful pattern as the indigo blue colour fades away. STRATEGIC BUSINESS UNIT selvedge jeans aquire a patina that is impossible to reproduce artificially. japanese selvage denim is the finest and most rare on the market today. japanese companies saw a market for traditionally made denim fabric and bought up most of the old american shuttle looms, introducing jeans made of selvage denim dyed with pure indigo. SBU denim is indigo dyed using rare and ancient machines which feed a rope of cotton yarn through vats of indigo dye and then out, to allow the indigo oxidize before the rope goes back down into the next vat. SBU denim fabrics are made by using up to thirty dips, obtaining a rich, deep indigo blue colour with unique character. the immense care put into the making of selvedge denim fabric, creates a jean of exceptional quality. SBU denim fabrics are made by using up to thirty dips, obtaining a rich, deep indigo blue colour with unique character. the immense care put into the making of selvedge denim fabric, creates a jean of exceptional quality. wearing SBU jeans made of selvedge denim is a very personal experience. each pair is a one of a kind piece.
